Smart Grid Sensors

Epoxy Casted Sensors and Systems designed for Medium Voltage applications by Radiant Enterprises.

Radiant Enterprises' Epoxy Casted Sensors and Systems are suitable for Medium Voltage applications.

Radiant is a company that specialises in custom epoxy casting. In recent years, an increasing number of smart-grid sensors have been over-moulded with epoxy resin.

We have a lot of experience casting bespoke sensors. These sensors are employed in monitoring systems for medium-voltage smart-grid solutions, and they boost the grid's performance significantly. Radiant also creates tailored medium voltage current and voltage sensors for its clients. It is working on developing and researching online partial discharge measuring systems for medium voltage switchgear.

A smart grid sensor is a compact, lightweight node in a sensor network that acts as a detection station. On an energy smart grid, smart grid sensors enable remote monitoring of equipment such as transformers and power lines, as well as demand-side resource management.

Smart grid sensors can monitor weather conditions as well as the temperature of power lines, which may then be used to determine the line's carrying capability. This is known as dynamic line rating, and it allows power providers to enhance the power flow of existing transmission lines. Smart grid sensors can also be utilized to improve energy efficiency in households and businesses.

A transducer, a microcontroller, a transceiver, and a power supply comprise a smart grid sensor. Electrical signals are generated by the transducer based on phenomena such as power-line voltage. The sensor output is processed and stored by the microprocessor. The transceiver, which can be hard-wired or wireless, receives commands from a central computer and sends data to it. Each sensor is powered by either an electric utility or a battery.
